Nokia N900 has landed!

I’ve finally stepped into the Maemo world! Thanks to my friend Darko, I’ve got my hands on the Nokia N900!

This Maemo 5 phone packs quite impressive list of specs, here are the ones I like the most:

  • 3.5″ TFT resistive touchscreen, 800 x 480 pixels
  • Three-row full QWERTY keyboard
  • 32 GB of mass storage, 256 MB of RAM
  • 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED Flash
  • FM transmitter – I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! As a matter of fact, I’ll write an entire post about this useful piece of hardware!
  • WiFi, GPS, accelerometer and proximity sensor…

The thing that cuts the enjoyment short, literally: poor battery life.

Here are some pics I’ve taken with my N82, many more coming in my “first impressions” post.

After transferring all my contacts and calendar entries via Bluetooth from my N82 (which runs Symbian – I was pleasantly surprised with this cross-platform sync), I’ve checked for firmware updates. I was glad to see that there was a huge update available (around 113MB – I’ve updated it OTA (Over-The-Air) using my WiFi connection) – V 10.2010.19-1. This update brought, among other things, Internet video calling, portrait browsing, email and calendar improvements and email homescreen widget.

So, the N900 is mine for one month, so I’ll try to cover as many thing as possible. If I miss anything, feel free to remind me 🙂

  1. I got a trial one too! After the update, access to all the apps makes it pretty versatile. I’ve posted a quick unboxing so far on my blog, will delve into the deeper stuff later.

    • Great unboxing mate! 🙂
I really like the N900, “first impressions” post coming soon..
