Nokia announces 3 new messaging phones!

So, I wasn’t that wrong, it is about messaging! 🙂

Today, at Everyone Connect virtual event, Nokia announced 3 brand new, budget friendly, messaging focused devices: E5, C3 and C6. (All pics ©Nokia.)

Lets begin with the business device that runs S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, E5.

As you can see, it has a full QWERTY keyboard, and it looks a lot like the famous E71, or little less famous E63. You can also see that it has a 5MP camera (with “full focus” – I guess this is similar, if not the same, as EDoF camera on the E52), like the E72. What you cannot see are the specs:

  • 2.4″ screen, 320×240, 256K colors,
  • Tri-band WCDMA, WLAN, A-GPS, Bluetooth 2.0,
  • 3,5mm Nokia AV connector,
  • OVI Maps with free drive/walk navigation,
  • Up to 250 MB internal memory, up to 32GB microSD card,
  • 1200 mAh LI-Ion battery.

It comes in five colors: Carbon Black, Chalk White, Sky Blue, Copper Brown and Silver Grey. It will cost somewhere around 180 Euros.

Now, the one that I’m not that fond of, mainly because it’s a S40 device,  C3.

But, I must admit it’s nice to see a first full QWERTY S40 phone. It also has WiFi, which is great. Unfortunately, it has a 2MP camera (they still make those?!), and no GPS.

  • 2.4” QVGA (320×240), up to 262k colors,
  • WiFi connectivity
  • Up to 55 MB internal memory, up to 8GB microSD card,
  • Handy addition: Conversational SMS for chat type messaging,
  • 3.5 AV connector

It will be available in Q2 2010, in 3 colors: Slate Grey, Golden White, Hot Pink. It will be yours for something around 90€!

And finally, my favorite, the touch-screen, full QWERTY, C6.

It’s a S60V5 phone, looks a lot like the N97/N97 mini, and packs the similar stuff:

  • 3,2” TFT with up to 16M colors, nHD 16:9 widescreen, 640×360,
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, integrated flash,
  • WLAN, A-GPS, Micro USB connector, Bluetooth 2.0,
  • 3.5 mm Nokia AV connector,
  • OVI Maps with free drive/walk navigation,
  • Up to 200 MB internal memory, up to 16BG microSD card.

It will be available in Black and White, and it’s planned for release in Q2 2010. You will be able to buy it for 220€, which is significantly cheaper than its big brothers.

So, to sum up, all three phones focus on messaging (in case you’ve missed, full QWERTY keyboard and WiFi can be found on all of them), and they are very, very, very affordable.

Great move by Nokia, the group of Nokia Messaging consumers is now going to expand exponentially, in my honest opinion.
